Trails

Our five wooded hiking trails cover beautiful Georgia Piedmont forest and easily take visitors far away from the city. The rustic River Boardwalk Trail brings visitors up-close and personal with the river that provides drinking water to most of metro Atlanta. All trails feature an abundance of plant and wildlife, year-round birding, and are perfect for beginner and experienced hikers.

Horticulture

The Center’s gardens cover almost 3 acres, displaying over 600 native plants from Georgia. The plants play an important part in our efforts to educate visitors about drought tolerance and disease resistance of native plants.

CNC is also proud to be involved with the protection, restoration and safeguarding of many of rare and endangered plant species of Georgia.

Wildlife

The Wildlife Department at the Chattahoochee Nature Center focuses on education and rehabilitation. More than 3,500 phone calls are received by the department each year, with topics ranging from animal identification to habitat destruction. Additionally, the wildlife staff provides medical assistance to injured birds of prey, reptiles and amphibians in the hope of releasing them back into the wild.

If an animal is unable to survive on its own, it may become a resident of the Chattahoochee Nature Center and is used in our educational programs and exhibits to teach our visitors about the importance of protecting our native wildlife.
