Butterfly Encounter

Special CNC members-only hours: Saturday, June 11 from 9 – 10 AM  

The year’s most popular encounter is back for this summer! This special outdoor encounter is open daily until 4:30 pm from June 6 – July 31! Get up close and personal with hundreds of native butterflies surrounded by colorful nectar plants. Photo opportunities abound, be sure to bring your camera! Special visiting opportunities include CNC Members Only hours, Breakfast with Butterflies, and special evening hours at Sunset Sips!

Story Time by the River

Lisa S storytime for Grandparents day 2013CNC storytellers will encourage your child’s participation by acting out the movements and sounds of storybook characters. With nature crafts, stories, songs and your child’s participation, we’ll make the best nature stories come alive.

Family Canoe Day

canoe 2Get your feet wet with our canoe guides on Beaver Pond. This 1 ½ hour introduction to canoeing is great for first time paddlers, families with young kids or adults coming back to the sport. We’ll spend extra time going over paddling techniques and equipment, but will also provide races, games and water squirters for those hot summer mornings. The CNC provides all equipment for participants. Ages 5+; $15 general public/$10 CNC members (per person).

Waxing Crescent Moon Family Night Hike

Night Hike 1Are you familiar with the phases of the moon? Have you ever felt the shift in energy depending on the different phase that the moon is in? During our family night hike, we will learn about the phases of the moon, discuss tales and legends associated with moon phases and explore one of CNC’s trails. We will wrap up the evening with an up-close experience with one of CNC’s rehabilitated nocturnal animals. All ages; $12 general public/$10 CNC members (in advance); Register by July 6 and save $2 per person.

Butterfly Encounter – Special Member’s Only Hour

The year’s most popular exhibit is back for this summer!  Get up close and personal with beautiful native butterflies surrounded by colorful nectar plants in our special outdoor exhibit. Photo opportunities abound, be sure to bring your camera!  Come out for a truly unique butterfly experience. Get nose to proboscis with free flying, native butterfly species in this tented live butterfly exhibit.  While you are here, learn how you can attract these beautiful creatures to your garden. Butterfly host and nectar plants will be available for sale. The exhibit is open daily from 10am- 4:30 pm Monday – Saturday and Noon – 4:30 pm on Sundays.

Pee-Wee Naturalist Summer Series

Pee-Wee Naturalist BDOW DemoDo you want to expand your child’s knowledge about nature and meet new friends? During the pee-wee naturalist series, we will explore many areas of the CNC’s 127 acres, get up close and personal with several of our rehabilitated animals and expand our artistic abilities. This program fills up fast, so don’t miss out on the fun. Ages 3 & 4; $55 general public/$40 CNC members (Adult helper required and admitted free); Register by June 3.

Woodland Restoration Project

Restoration Day(1)Come help us restore our woodlands during this morning of service. We will be working to remove invasive English ivy and privet in and around our 127 acres to encourage native plant restoration. These events have a 20 person maximum and fill up early!  Please contact us to reserve a spot for your family or group.  Ages 5 – Adult; Register by July 13th by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator.

Water Day

STARLAB

StarlabwithstarsCome visit CNC’s own round portable celestial theater: STARLAB. Inside our planetarium, we’ll customize the night sky so that it projects the stars location for that very day as well as discuss the Perseids Meteor Shower that is occurring between July 17 and August 24. (Two, 25-minute presentations); Ages 6+. Please note for small children: the planetarium is completely dark.

Shooting Stars Family Night Hike

Night Hike 1Have you ever heard of the Perseid Meteor Shower? The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour. This meteor shower runs annually from July 17 to August 24. During our family night hike, we will gaze at the sky for shooting stars, planets and constellations as we explore one of the CNC’s trails. Remember, if you see a shooting star, make a wish but don’t tell anyone or it won’t come true. All ages; $10 general public/$7 CNC members (advance); Day of $15 general public/$10 CNC members.

Harvest on the Hooch

H on the HJoin us for this unique Farm to Table Garden Fest complete with tastings prepared by our favorite local restaurants and caterers.  Harvest on the Hooch will allow you to enjoy samplings of local craft beers and wine, Bluegrass music, Games, Alpacas and other surprise farm guests!  Supporting this garden helps those in need, by providing fresh produce to the Food Pantry at North Fulton Community Charity each week.  It is our goal to educate the community on the value and environmental benefits of the ‘farm-to-table’ movement.  Meet some real ‘foodies’ and learn about adding healthy fresh foods to your diet as you party with us! Halloween Hikes

Friday and Saturday, October 21st, 22nd, 28th and 29th – 6:30 pm

A Family Event you won’t want to miss! If you are searching for a unique Halloween adventure, we have the program for you. Take your child on a well-lit hike through the forest to meet woodland creatures and hear about their lives. It’s the perfect non-scary alternative to traditional Halloween events and a VERY important fundraiser for CNC!

Meet over Forty Fine Arts Artisans,  Artisans of the Farm and Kitchen and Instrumental Artisans – all while supporting local crafts-persons and Fair Trade.  Our market contains local vendors selling their hand-made, eco-friendly goods for your holiday gift giving.  These skilled entrepreneurs make unique items that you won’t find in retail stores.  Buy local this Holiday Season and help our economy! Avoid crowded malls.

Meet talented entrepreneurs and local vendors selling holiday gifts galore!  Last year we had a wide variety of vendors and many of them will be returning again this year. Visit our Nature Store for unique eco-friendly gifts, fun nature toys and games, nature related books perfect for you and your favorite nature lovers.  You can also purchase gift memberships to CNC for your friends and family!  Nature Exchange Traders can find a fun gift for parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters!

PLEASE CARPOOL! Free parking, but limited spaces, please help us and the earth by carpooling!  Some vendors only take cash or check.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
If a class is cancelled for any reason you will receive a full refund. If you wish to cancel your reservation, please contact our office at least six business days prior to your scheduled program. $10 of your registration fee will be retained by CNC. You will receive confirmation when we receive your cancellation. If you do not receive confirmation within one business day, we have not received your cancellation. No refunds will be given for cancellations made fewer than 6 business days prior to your scheduled program. Refunds will be paid by check, please allow 4 – 6 weeks.
