Canoe Programs

Each trip is led by a CNC naturalist and offers a unique introduction to the ecology of the Chattahoochee River. Your naturalist will enlighten you as to the cultural and natural history of the river, citing important ecological relationships and environmental issues that affect this endangered river while allowing you to enjoy the peaceful qualities of the River.

canoe1Canoe Guides are all CPR/First Aid Certified and are experienced paddlers and naturalists. Don’t worry if you are new to canoeing – CNC provides all equipment (canoe, paddles, and personal flotation device (PFDs) for participants.
These trips are suitable for both beginning and advanced paddlers (ages 6 and up.)

Private Canoe Excursions
Ages 6 – Adult, Advance Registration Required at least 2 weeks in advance
A private canoe excursion gives your group the exclusive attention of our naturalists. It’s a great opportunity for groups who want to spend time together while exploring the Chattahoochee River. Trips can be arranged to fit your schedule and can accommodate large and small groups.

Labor Day Paddle
Monday, September 1st, 9am – Noon, Ages 6 – Adult; $30 General Public/$25 CNC Members; Registration Required by August 28th

Take advantage of this day off with a relaxing on the Chattahoochee River. Join our naturalist for a morning paddle and we’ll get you back in time to prepare for any end-of-summer cookouts!

canoe2Birding Canoe Trip
September 13th, Saturday, Trip time from 7am – 11am, Ages 14 – Adult; $40 General Public/$35 CNC Members; Registration required by September 11th

This trip will focus specifically on birds in the area and exploring the hidden backwaters along the river – a treat for birders of any skill-level! Participants will be led by Master Birders and can borrow binoculars from the nature center.

Women’s Only Paddle
Saturday, October 11th, 9am – Noon OR 1 – 4PM, Ages 18+; $30 General Public/$25 CNC Members

Do you want to spend time outdoors on the river, but aren’t sure how to get started? Join two of our female canoe guides on this women’s only trip to discover the Chattahoochee River as a source of relaxation and adventure!!

Fall Colors River Tour
Saturday, November 1st & Sunday, November 2nd, 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm, Ages 14  – Adult; Registration Required by November 6th

Join us on our Fall Colors River Tour as we take in the yellows, reds and oranges of the trees before they fade into winter. We’ll paddle quietly along the Chattahoochee river taking in the sounds of the river and its wildlife, and enjoy the cool breeze on our backs and the warm sunshine on our faces.

Canoeing 101 at CNCcanoe3

It’s the season to get on the water and what better way to get prepared then signing up for a Canoeing 101 program! If you are ready to paddle but not sure where to start then this is the perfect experience for you. Join us to discover the basics of canoeing including boat basics (parts of the boat, the correct way to enter and exit, paddling strokes, etc.) and basic safety procedures. Canoe guides will help you learn basic paddling techniques for your time on the water. After instruction with our Canoe Guides, you will have time to enjoy paddling on one of CNC’s ponds in order to practice your new skills.

  • $15 General Public/$10 Members (price per person); To receive the member rate you must join at the family level or higher.) Book a third seat in a canoe for ½ off! (Person in the middle seat of a canoe will have limited access to paddling – recommended for younger children.)

Canoeing 102

Saturday, September 6th, 2 – 4pm, Ages 14 – Adult; $20 General Public/$15 CNC Members; Registration required by September 4th

Ready to take your canoe skills to the next level? On one of our ponds canoe guides will help you learn advanced paddling techniques, and demonstrate how to right a capsized boat. This program is great for adults and teens who want to lead others on canoe trips, whether they are a scout or camp group, or your family and friends! Participants will be getting in the water!
