Wilderness First Aid

Times:  8:30AM - 5:30PM both days with optional CPR add on Saturday until 7:30pm

The capacity for this class is 25 students. Please do not wait until the last minute to register. This program is for ages 16 - Adult

Description:This course provides entry-level training for outdoor enthusiasts to prepare themselves for outdoor trips. Topics covered range from preparation and prevention to assessment and treatment. All of our instructors have extensive outdoor experience and have been selected not only for their expertise in emergency medicine and rescue, but also for their teaching skills. WFA is a two-year certification that does not include CPR. American Heart Association (AHA) HeartSaver CPR is an optional extra that can be taken on the evening of day one.

Wilderness First Responder

This course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors and students in outdoor recreational programs. The 72-hour curriculum includes standards for urban and extended-care situations. This course is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical medical and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Half of your time will be spent completing practical skills, case studies and scenarios designed to challenge your decision-making abilities.

Wilderness First Responder Re-certification
Wilderness Survival Class

Whether you're planning to audition for an episode of Survivor or just want to improve your wilderness aptitude, this 2-day workshop is bound to be an exciting weekend! We'll spend some time in the classroom, but the bulk of our learning will take place in scenarios on the grounds of the Chattahoochee Nature Center.

Topics will include:

  • Making a Plan: Food, Water, Fire, Shelter
  • Water: Collection, Purification and Filtration
  • Food: Trapping, Edible Plants and Cooking Methods
  • Fire: Wood, Location, One Match Fire and Flint & Steel
  • Shelter: Location and Examples
  • Calling for Help: Basic Signaling and Leaving Notes or Signs
  • Building Survival Kits
